Christmas Shopping Rush: The Role of Employee Financial Wellbeing

Boosting Business Performance During the Christmas Shopping Rush: The Role of Employee Financial Wellbeing

The holiday season brings joy and celebration, but for many businesses, it also ushers in a period of increased stress and challenges. As Christmas shopping kicks into high gear, employees juggle work responsibilities with the festive season’s demands. However, there’s a powerful tool that businesses can utilise to not only navigate this period more smoothly but also enhance overall performance: employee financial wellbeing.

It’s no secret that the financial strains of the holiday season can take a toll on employees. From finding the perfect gifts to managing travel expenses and hosting gatherings, the pressure to make the holidays special can lead to heightened stress levels. This stress can, in turn, significantly impact business operations.

Increased Absenteeism:

Employees who are stressed about their finances may be more likely to call in sick or take unplanned leave. It can lead to disruption in the workplace and make it challenging for the business to meet its deadlines. The combination of holiday-related stress and work responsibilities can result in burnout, affecting attendance.

Reduced Productivity:

Financial stress can impede an employee’s ability to concentrate and perform at their best. The worries and distractions related to holiday spending can lead to errors and decreased productivity. Mistakes that stem from stressed minds can affect the quality of work, causing delays and rework.

Increased Turnover:

Financial stress can contribute to dissatisfaction and disengagement among employees. When financial concerns loom large, employees may actively seek job opportunities with better compensation. The ensuing turnover can disrupt business continuity and incur significant recruitment and training costs.

Lower Morale:

The holiday season is meant to be a time of joy and connection, but financial stress can cast a shadow on these sentiments. Employees dealing with financial worries may experience lower morale, impacting their engagement and enthusiasm for their work. This decrease in confidence can trickle down to affect creativity and innovation, essential components of a thriving business.

Negative Impact on Customer Service:

Stressed employees may need help maintaining the high level of customer service expected, especially during the bustling holiday season. Their patience may wear thin, and their interactions with customers may be less helpful than usual. It can tarnish the business’s reputation and lower customer satisfaction.

Enter the solution:

The Eternal Engagements Employee Benefits Platform. By offering a suite of financial wellness resources, including exclusive discounts, financial planning tools, and stress management resources, businesses can confidently equip their employees to navigate the holiday season. When employees have the tools and support to manage their finances effectively, the business benefits in numerous ways.

Unlock Business Success with Mental Health Services for Your Employees!

In today’s dynamic business landscape, success isn’t just about numbers and profits. It’s about people. Your employees are the backbone of your organization, driving innovation, growth, and profitability. Therefore, it’s crucial to prioritize their well-being and mental health. The connection between mental health and business success is profound, and companies that understand and invest in it are reaping the rewards.

Let’s delve into how providing your employees with access to mental health services can directly impact your business’s bottom line and foster a thriving workplace culture.

Reduced Absenteeism:

Mental health issues like depression and anxiety are leading causes of disability worldwide. When employees have access to mental health services, they are more likely to address and manage these concerns early on. This proactive approach can significantly reduce absenteeism rates, as employees are better equipped to navigate challenges and maintain their overall well-being.

Increased Productivity:

A mentally healthy workforce is a productive one. Employees who have access to mental health services are better positioned to focus, concentrate, and make sound decisions. When mental health is prioritized, cognitive functions are optimized, leading to higher efficiency and productivity. This means tasks are completed more effectively, driving your business’s success and growth.

Improved Employee Morale:

Mental health support sends a powerful message to your employees – you care about their well-being. Feeling valued and supported leads to improved morale and job satisfaction. Employees who know they can seek help when needed are more likely to be engaged, motivated, and enthusiastic about their roles. This positive atmosphere fosters collaboration, creativity, and a sense of unity among your workforce.

Reduced Turnover:

High turnover can be detrimental to any business, in terms of both costs and productivity. Employees who have access to mental health services are more likely to stay with your company. Feeling that their mental health matters to the organization makes them more loyal and invested in their roles. This reduces the need for frequent recruitment and training, saving your business time and resources.

Enhanced Creativity and Innovation:

Mental well-being isn’t just about addressing challenges; it’s also about unlocking potential. Employees who are mentally healthy are more likely to think creatively and innovatively. A supportive environment allows minds to explore new perspectives, generate fresh ideas, and approach problem-solving in unique ways. This spirit of innovation can lead to the development of new products, services, and strategies, giving your business a competitive edge.

Measuring the Impact:

At Eternal Engagements, we offer more than just mental health services. We provide data-driven insights into the impact of our services on your business. Movember: Supporting Men’s Health and Raising Awareness

November isn’t just another month; it’s Movember – when moustaches take on a new significance. Beyond the style statement, Movember is a movement that aims to raise awareness about men’s health issues, from physical health to mental wellbeing. It’s an opportunity for individuals, communities, and organisations to support and advocate for men’s health.

The Movember Movement

The Movember movement was founded with a simple goal: to change the face of men’s health. The iconic moustache becomes a symbol throughout the month, sparking conversations and encouraging action to address the challenges men face.

Why Men’s Health Matters

Men’s health often takes a back seat in discussions, yet the statistics are startling. Men are more likely to die prematurely from conditions that could have been prevented. Prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health issues, and suicide are significant concerns affecting men worldwide. Movember seeks to break down the stigma surrounding these topics and foster open conversations.

Physical Health: Prostate and Testicular Cancer Awareness

Prostate and testicular cancer are two of the most common cancers among men. Early detection is vital to successful treatment. Movember focuses on raising awareness about the importance of regular check-ups, self-exams, and understanding the risk factors associated with these cancers.

Mental Health: Breaking the Silence

Mental health is equally essential, yet discussions around it remain limited. Due to societal expectations, men often hesitate to speak up about their mental struggles. Movember aims to shatter this silence by providing resources, support, and platforms to discuss mental health challenges openly. Initiatives like “Men’s Health Month” shed light on anxiety, depression, and suicide prevention.

As part of Eternal Engagments’ commitment to employee wellbeing, we offer comprehensive support through our Wellbeing Hub. Our resources include self-help guides, articles, and meditation guides designed to help individuals manage stress, improve mental health, and foster overall wellbeing. Additionally, our 24/7/365 Employee Assistance Program (EAP) provides confidential access to qualified counsellors, ensuring that employees and their families have a safe space to discuss their mental health concerns.

Warrington Youth Zone Team Day – October 2023

In October, our team had the unique opportunity to step away from the usual office setting and embark on a day of growth and camaraderie. Our destination was the Warrington Youth Zone, where we were greeted with a warm welcome and an inspiring agenda.

We commenced our day in one of the Youth Zone’s high-quality meeting rooms, providing the perfect backdrop to share updates and insights from various corners of our business. The highlight of our morning was a thought-provoking workshop led by our HR manager, Amrit Gata-Aura.

Before breaking for lunch, we had the privilege of meeting Dave McNicholl, the Chief Executive of Warrington Youth Zone. Dave offered a fascinating glimpse into the organisation’s history, tracing its roots from the Warrington Boys Club, opened in 1950 by HRH Princess Margaret, to its current transformation into the vibrant Warrington Youth Zone. It was clear that this journey was made possible by the unwavering support of the local community, with special recognition to Nick “Hoppy” Hopkinson.

Warrington youth zone

Warrington Youth Zone is dedicated to “Inspiring young people to achieve”. Their mission revolves around supporting the holistic development of young individuals, equipping them with essential skills, knowledge, self-awareness, and confidence. They empower young people to make positive and informed life choices through diverse programs tailored to different age groups. To learn more about their impactful work and how you can get involved, visit the website for Warrington https://warringtonyouthzone.org/ or find more youth zones around the UK at OnSide – A national youth charity that’s here for young people (onsideyouthzones.org).

Following a delicious lunch, we enjoyed exploring the Youth Zone’s impressive facilities, guided by Marie Howorth, the Business Administration Manager, and her team. The afternoon’s highlight was an exciting competition where the Eternal Engagements team was split into two groups.

The activities ranged from scaling climbing walls to inflatable darts, curling, miniature golf, and even a penalty shoot-out. The competition was fierce, and the energy was infectious. Ultimately, we celebrated the victorious team comprising Carl, Emma, Joe, and Hannah. Congratulations!

Our team left the Warrington Youth Zone with hearts full of gratitude and excitement for the future. We are eager to continue supporting this incredible organisation in any way possible.

We want to thank the entire Warrington Youth Zone team for opening your doors to us and creating a day filled with laughter and teamwork.

Most common mistakes in Payroll.

In the fast-paced world of payroll management, even the most diligent businesses can sometimes stumble into pitfalls that could lead to complications, penalties, and unhappy employees. At Eternal Engagements, we’re committed to helping you navigate these challenges smoothly and efficiently. Let’s take a closer look at some of the most common mistakes in payroll and how you can avoid them.

Not paying minimum wage.

You must pay at least the minimum wage to all employees on your payroll. There are different minimum rates to pay to each employee depending on their age. Minimum wage rates tend to increase on 1st April each year, subject to the government’s budget announcements each year. Many employers make the mistake of not paying the correct wage rates to their staff as a result of the increase in April or fail to note when their employee has a birthday which requires an increase in Minimum wage.

Not paying holiday pay.

From the moment staff are employed, they accrue holiday pay. It doesn’t matter if they are part-time, full-time or casual workers etc. everyone is entitled to holidays and holiday pay. Upon cessation of employment, you must still pay any untaken holiday pay accrued up to the point of leaving to your worker. If your employee leaves without working any notice, untaken holiday pay again must be paid.

Not submitting information to HMRC.

With each pay run you process, you must submit your payroll information to HMRC. For the normal pay run, you will need to submit an FPS which has the gross, tax and NIC deducted from your employees as well as the employer NIC amounts. If you have no staff on your payroll, you must still submit a return to HMRC, this return is known as an EPS and lets HMRC know that you haven’t paid any employees for the month. These submissions need to be made on or before your pay date.

Using the wrong tax code.

When an employee joins your business, they should give you a P45 from their previous employer. You will need to use this P45 in order to add them to your payroll software and use the correct tax code for them. If they do not have a P45, your employee will need to complete a P46 new starter form in order to ensure the correct amount of tax is deducted from their first wage. HMRC will normally issue an amendment to the tax code if needed once they have received the FPS submission with the employee’s information.

Not being consistent.

You should process your payroll on the same day each week/month and pay your staff on the same day each week/month in order to ensure consistency. Failure to be consistent with pay dates can lead to issues with underpaid tax.

Not paying the correct amount to employees.

After a payroll has been processed and pay slips have been produced by your payroll software, you need to pay each employee the net pay as per their pay slip not the gross pay. The gross pay is the amount prior to tax, nic and pension deductions taken from their wage. The net pay, is the amount after these deductions have been made.

At Eternal Engagements, we’re here to ensure your payroll management is smooth, precise, and compliant. Our expert team helps you steer clear of these pitfalls, making sure your employees are paid accurately and on time. With our guidance, your business can thrive while avoiding these common payroll challenges.

Embracing Disability Pride Month: Creating an Inclusive Workplace.

At Eternal Engagements, we are dedicated to fostering an inclusive and diverse workplace where everyone feels valued and supported. As we celebrate Disability Awareness and Pride Month, we want to highlight our commitment to creating an environment that embraces and celebrates the abilities of all individuals. In this blog post, we will explore the significance of disability pride, discuss the importance of compliance with employment laws, and showcase how our HR documentation and policies can attract and support disabled employees.

Understanding Disability Pride:

Disability Pride Month is a time to celebrate the achievements, resilience, and diversity of the disabled community. It is an opportunity to raise awareness, challenge stigmas, and promote inclusivity. By embracing disability pride, we recognize the unique talents and perspectives that individuals with disabilities bring to the workplace. It is through this celebration that we create a culture of acceptance, respect, and equal opportunities for all.

Compliance with Employment Laws:

As an employer, it is crucial to adhere to employment laws and regulations to ensure equal treatment and protection for disabled employees. In the UK, the Equality Act 2010 prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities in various aspects of employment, including recruitment, training, promotion, and reasonable adjustments. At Eternal Engagements, we prioritize compliance with these laws and work diligently to create an inclusive environment that meets the needs of all our employees.

HR Documentation and Policies to Support Disabled Employees:

To attract and support disabled employees, we have developed comprehensive HR documentation and policies. These resources not only demonstrate our commitment to inclusivity but also provide a framework for addressing the specific needs and concerns of disabled individuals. Some of the key elements include:

  1. Equal Opportunity Policy: We have a clear and comprehensive policy that promotes equal opportunities for all employees, regardless of their disability status.
  2. Reasonable Adjustments: We have a robust process in place to identify and implement reasonable adjustments to support disabled employees in performing their roles effectively.
  3. Accessibility Measures: We have taken proactive steps to ensure that our physical workspace, digital platforms, and communication channels are accessible to all, removing barriers and promoting inclusivity.
  4. Training and Awareness: We provide ongoing training and awareness programs for our staff to enhance understanding, empathy, and support for disabled colleagues.

By having these HR documentation and policies in place, we create an inclusive workplace culture that embraces diversity and supports the growth and development of all our employees.

As we celebrate Disability Awareness and Pride Month, Eternal Engagements reaffirms its commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive workplace for disabled individuals. We understand the importance of compliance with employment laws and have developed comprehensive HR documentation and policies to attract, support, and retain disabled employees. By fostering an inclusive environment, we celebrate the unique abilities and contributions of all our team members, ensuring that everyone can thrive and reach their full potential.

Join us in embracing disability pride and building a workplace where diversity is celebrated, and every individual feels valued and empowered. Together, we can create positive change and make a lasting impact in the lives of our employees.
